RESEARCH ASSIGNMENT GUIDE – MONTMARTE

Assignments:

  1. Wiki entry
  • No interviews. Only facts and data.
  • Make use of the local history book and museum while in Montmarte.
  • Your entry will need an image. Take photos there, or photos of archival images. If appropriate to your topic, prepare a graph or chart.

  1. Fact Pack
  • A folder or binder of documents supporting the facts in the feature story you do for Shannon’s class.
  • To do well with this assignment, it stands to reason that your feature story should have substance and context. Frame your subject within wider historical, social, economic or political trends.
  • Example: You do a story about a local business. Is it the only one in town? Was there a time when there were more such businesses? Is business on the decline, or on the rise? What historical economic trends have impacted this business? What does the future potentially hold?
  • Use quality, reliable back-up sources (Example: a published book, minutes from a meeting, a photo, as opposed to a personal blog post or the town website.)
