Position Overview: | A leader in Canada’s national news media, the Globe and Mail is offering a full-time one-year internship to a person who identifies as Indigenous – First Nations, Metis or Inuit – who is interested in starting in October.
The intern would be expected to inform The Globe’s coverage of the Indigenous peoples of Canada, but not exclusively, and will be given opportunities to work with media specialists in all areas of The Globe’s journalism, including Business, Politics, Arts and Life, Sports, Digital and Video, to pitch and develop compelling enterprise pieces. Each applicant should include: 1. Resume, including relevant experience, as an attachment, or a hard copy. 2. A 200-word explanation of what you would bring to The Globe, with a pitch on what aspects of Indigenous communities you would like to explore. 3. Two examples of your work, in the medium/media of your choice – written, video, photography or multi-media. Applicants will be assessed not only on their experience but also enthusiasm and story ideas. This is a demanding role that will require flexibility and tenacity, but that will also provide exceptional learning opportunities for the successful candidate. The successful applicant will work primarily out of The Globe’s head office in Toronto, but would have opportunities to travel for assignments and to visit other Globe bureaus.
