First Nations University of Canada Alumni Association wants to open its membership to everyone who was ever a part of the university.
Current members are considering creating an “honorary alumni” category for students who did not complete their certificates, diplomas or degrees, “or if they just took classes or if they were just friends who hung out at the university,” said Association Chair Milton Tootoosis.
Tootoosis is excited at the possibility that thousands of former students of First Nations University of Canada may be included.
The matter was discussed at the Association’s May 10 meeting where there was a feast, round dance and giveaway. Members also participated in the pow-wow Grand Entry Saturday, said Tootoosis.
Recent FNUniv graduate Keira Cappo, is one of the newest members.
“We are still a part of the university after we are done,” she says. “It means that we are still a part of the FNUniv community (That) gives us a reason to come back,”
Cappo says the Alumni Association can help students and alumni.
“We can learn from each other and collaborate on ideas to give back to the university,” she said.
What a great interview, Novalee!
